Using the site
Everything here is free. Print the tab, use it to learn, teach from it, bring it to a session. No account, no paywall, no adverts, and that is not going to change.
Where the tunes come from
The tunes are from collections published before 1929, chiefly Francis O’Neill’sMusic of Ireland (1903) and The Dance Music of Ireland (1907). Those books are out of copyright, so the music in them is free for anyone to publish. The tablature is generated from the notation by this site.
The tunes themselves are traditional. Nobody owns them and we make no claim to them. We ask only that you do not scrape the site wholesale; if you want the data, get in touch and we will talk about it.
Submitting your own setting of a tune
If you submit a setting, you are confirming three things, and they matter:
- You transcribed it yourself. Not copied from a tutor book, a published collection still in copyright, or a website whose terms do not allow it. Typing someone else’s transcription out again does not make it yours.
- The tune is traditional, or the composition is yours. If somebody living wrote it, we cannot publish it without their say-so.
- You are giving us permission to publish it here, with your credit on it, and to keep it here.
You keep whatever rights you have in your own transcription. You are not signing them over.
Nothing goes live automatically. Every submission is read before it is published, and anything that looks copied is refused. If something copyrighted does get through, tell us athello@tradtab.com and it comes down straight away.
Accounts
Signing in is optional and adds things rather than taking anything away. Do not use somebody else’s account, and do not use the site to abuse other people. We can close an account that is being used to do either.
The usual disclaimer
The tab is generated automatically from the notation, and the old collections themselves contain mistakes. It is offered as it is, without a guarantee that every tune is right. If you find an error, tell us and we will fix it.
